Avid is all in the name- we are Avid about all things dog, Aussie in particular. We strive to continue the greatness that is the Australian shepherd in all aspects- temperament, structure, type, biddability and natural herding instinct. We work to improve on each generation. We are breeding for thinking dogs that learn to problem solve to the assistance of their handler. They should be intelligent, biddable, and have appropriate reserve (never shy nor sharp). They should be suited to whatever task is asked of them and look good while doing it. We give our puppies the best start possible, beginning with top-notch nutrition and continuing into ENS/super puppy program shortly after birth. Their time with us is filled with enrichment activities - sights, sounds, smells- and of course, household experiences. Our goal is to give them a great foundation upon which to grow into amazing adults. We implement the Puppy Culture program as well as use our experience as professional dog trainers to help further their understanding of the human world they'll be a huge part of and support their owners for life. We strive to foster a camaraderie within the owners of each litter through private litter-specific facebook groups and encouragement for puppy pick-ups to be around the same time/day so even those owners that live across the country or world from each other can feel connected to their Avid family. We are located on the beautiful front range of Colorado. Haven't had one and think you want an aussie? Read this first. We breed to the ASCA breed standard* and agree with their stance on any 'size varieties' of the Australian shepherd: The Miniature Australian Shepherd, North American Shepherd, North American Miniature Australian Shepherd, and/or Toy Australian Shepherd breeds are not recognized as a variety of Australian Shepherd by ASCA. The club considers such dogs to be a distinct and separate breed and will not accept them into its registry. *Also a great idea to read the annotations that go along with the standard. |
